Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXV: Honey Badger For Heisman?, Plus Newt Gingrich? Seriously?

He’s got lotsa moxie and speed
Sometimes smokes synthetic weed
The Honey Badger sparks LSU
Like he sparks a bong in Baton Roo
Grabs Heismans and cobras doesn’t heed

Another headline from Butt Favre
He defines attention starved
Wants to play for the Bears
But no one really cares
So back to your farm to whittle and carve

Another tragedy at Virginia Tech
Still another shooting, what the heck
A dangerous campus on the whole
The city takes a mental toll
Blacksburg must be a complete wreck

A miserable 0-7 start
Playing like a collective fart
Now Sparano has them winning
So fans heads are spinning
Can he save his job by showing heart?

The leading candidate is f#%^ing Newt?!
Ain’t he dead on a pile of loot?
Think he stole Christmas, Gingrich
At the least, he’s a cheating bitch
More proof the GOP needs the boot

Deep Thoughts By No-Look McFadden: Episode 36

#1
The alphabet according to Star Wars? “A is for Ackbar”? Sign me the F up. Very cool and clever.

#2
In the time before he became a quarterback-butt-licking announcer, Ron Jaworski could sling it a bit himself, earning the nickname “The Polish Rifle” during his days with the Philadelphia Iggles. Along those lines, hugely bearded Buffalo signal-caller Ryan Fitzpatrick has gained the moniker, “The Amish Rifle.” Tremendous.

#3
Ever seen an incredible underwater sculpture? This is certainly one of those situations where the picture speaks for itself. Wow.

#4
Dear Sidney Lowe,
Consider this your official warning that any seat you sit on over the next four months will be hot to the touch.
Love and holiday cheer,
Debbie Yow

#5
Say, Donovan McNabb? In the wake of losing your job to Rex Grossman, even Butt Favre thinks it’s high time you called it quits.

#6
Twice in the last couple of weeks, coworkers have claimed that they didn’t complete a project because they didn’t save their work and “lost” it. Um, didn’t that excuse lose any relevancy like a decade ago? How could anyone possibly not save their work in this day and age? Is that the equivalent of “My dog ate my homework” these days?

#7
I keep hearing Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo getting touted for NFL Coach of the Year honors. Yes, he’s had quite a turnaround there in St. Louis, but has there ever been a Coach of the Year who finished the season with a losing record?!
As opposed to the ACC, where they like to shit-can their coaches of the year, then get them cast on “Biggest Loser.”

#8
So Justin Timberlake is unveiling a line of biker gear-themed clothing exclusively for Target. Because that’s where most of the “Sons of Anarchy” and “Hell’s Angels” do their road-wear shopping. Jeezus, can someone just end this jackass already?

#9
A week and a half after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, Matt Cassel started at quarterback for Kansas City and endured a number of tremendous shots without flinching. Matt Cassel is tough.

#10
Another pet peeve: People who use the phrase, “I kid you not.” Really? And is there a reason you decided to turn into fucking Yoda for no reason whatsoever?

Real. Open Fly. Jeans.

... And Butt Favre's status as a national punchline is officially complete.

Deep Thoughts By No-Look McFadden: Episode 32

#1
A friend of mine got me hooked on “Sons of Anarchy.” As someone who got engrossed in “Hell’s Angels,” by Hunter S. Thompson, it’s a natural fit, a Sopranos-esque look at balancing immoral and moral lives. Check it out if you get a chance.

#2
So, Stanford has a dude named McGillicuddy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I find that hysterical.

#3
I have ADT as a security service. Now they’re fake-breaking into people’s homes. It may be time to get rid of ADT as a security service.

#4
Nominee for headline of the year: IHOP vs. IHOP. And who’s to say that the International House of Pancakes and the International House of Prayer don’t amount to the same thing for some people?

#5
In case you ever wondered what happens when two complete douches try to conduct an interview, I give you Doug Gottlieb vs. Jim Mora, Jr. Train-wreck funny.

#6
Underrated line of the season in “Mad Men” was Midge describing heroin as “It’s like drinking 100 bottles of whiskey while someone licks your tit.” Somewhere, Amy Winehouse just gave you a slow clap, Midge.

#7
So a coach for Baylor basketball threatened to have a Colombian kid deported if he didn’t sign with the Bears? Are you fucking kidding me? And you wonder why college athletics is becoming such a joke.
On a side note, why isn’t Arizona involved in this recruitment? #politicaljoke

#8
A kid comes by the house selling Pop Corn for the Cub Scouts. We reluctantly buy a bag of popcorn for $20 and the kid takes out a walkie-talkie and relays the order to his Mom idling on the curb. Mom runs the popcorn down to the kid, who already has the paper work signed.
Things have changed a little bit since my days, when Cub Scouts mostly revolved around either trying to burn shit or trying to tie shit so good you couldn’t untie it.

#9
Listening to Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden trying to show who loves Butt Favre more on Monday Night Football reminds me of myself and my two brothers fighting over who gets to be Bo when we watched “Dukes of Hazzard” as kids.
Listening to Cris Collinsworth talk about him on Sunday Night Football just makes me think he wants to get on Favre’s Fave Five for texting fun.

#10
So Nigerian Sesame Street is going to feature an HIV-positive muppet. But in America, Katy Perry’s prodigious sweater puppets are too in-your-face for our kids?

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXIX: Hope Found In A Chilean Mine, Plus Draper Goes All In

More than two months trapped
33 miners with strength sapped
Their plight in Chile
Makes our worries seem silly
Their safe rescue a great story capped

With a bye, a game wasn’t missed
Now my own Dolphins wish list
Marshall no talking & no more blocked kicks
Ronnie no dancing & Henne no picks
If we blow this season, I’m gonna be pissed

Always knew Butt Favre was a prick
But to be this literal is a bit sick
Sexting a sideline Barbie doll?
How immature and lacking in gall
Hopefully everyone is tired of his schtick

Welcome to Blog Action Day
A goal to raise awareness, they say
But water conservation is important to all
I know it’s a task that is quite tall
So what will you do in your own special way?

Heinz didn’t amount to beans
Don makes risky anti-tobacco scenes
Due to Sally, Betty wants to move
Change of scenery, it may behoove
An agency on eggshells, who knows what this means?

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXVIII: Metsies Starting Over Yet Again, Plus Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce In Shambles

Flushing is an apropos name
For the Mets ugly game
They shitcanned Manuel and Minaya
Because wins they just can’t buy-a
Now let’s find someone else to blame

Pissing off the Patsies boss
Spelled the end for one Randy Moss
Traded from the Cheaters to the Vikes
Luckily, he’s one of Butt Favre’s likes
But as to Belichick’s vision, I’m at a loss

Under pressure he flubbed a chip
Then couldn’t hide a quivering lip
Mahan fought his heart out
In an epic Ryder Cup bout
Chin up, it’s just a small blip

Goddam, I hate the Phils
Own the Mets and win with no frills
But Roy Halladay, my hat’s off
A no-hitter is nothing to scoff
Baseball playoffs are a battle of wills

As Lucky Strikes skips town
Rog watches it all crumble down
Peg whores it up a tad
Pete becomes a Dad
Don bangs Megan after a Faye frown

Deep Thoughts By No-Look McFadden: Episode 31

#1
To the fucking toolbag douchebag rectal wizard who thinks it’s a good idea to go for a leisurely bike ride down the right lane of Lynn Road during rush hour, trailed by roughly 60 cars mere inches from his back tire: Get on the sidewalk or take back roads before you kill yourself or someone else.
Bonus tip just because you’re obviously a ‘tard: Flipping off everyone who honks at you will undoubtedly increase the likelihood that it will be you.

#2
Boise State is to football as Butler is to basketball. How the hell are people still not understanding this?

#3
Ben Stein was “cool” for about an eight-year span before everyone realized what a neo-conservative, insufferable, condescending prick he was. So it was good to see Bill Maher put him in his place while simultaneously eviscerating him.

#4
After the Jets faked an injury to stop the clock and give an exhausted defense a much-needed break on primetime national TV against the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football, you just knew the NFL would come down pretty hard on them, being all anti-cheating and all.
Still waiting, Rog.

#5
So apparently, a bunch of firefighters stood by and watched as someone’s house burned down because the owner didn’t pay firefighting dues or some shit.
To quote “Team America: World Police:” “America, fuck yeah!”

#6
R.I.P. to a true NFL legend, George Blanda. Amazing player, amazing story and the anti-Butt Favre to boot.

#7
Apparently, Jin from “Lost” is now part of the “Hawaii 5-0” cast. I guess he never had to leave the island, in the show or in real-life.

#8
Has anyone ever seen former Wolfpack hoopster Jeremy Hyatt and temporary Michigan State coach Don Treadwell in the same place at the same time?

#9
Stanford’s Andrew Luck, welcome to the Complete-Fucking-Dork-Who-Is-Also-A-Tremendous-Quarterback Club.
FYI, it’s just you and Peyton Manning right now.

#10
Need a Christmas idea for your toddler? How about the “Shark Attack” playset from Animal Planet?
Are you fucking kidding me?!
Let me get this straight: you’re targeting an age group (3 years and up) that is just beginning to learn about the water and swimming. And you’re painting a scene of a person in a cage being attacked by a goddam shark?! What?!

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXI: The Travails Of Fantasy Football Drafting, Plus The Drama Douche Is Back

Another year in the WFFL
Draft Day made me kinda yell
QBs went flying off the board
Strategy changed with a “Good lord”
You pick who you can and say, “What the hell”

Marshall did his Ginn impression
Dropped two without a reception
The game was full of jitters
Even for Miami’s big hitters
Instead, I shoulda watched “Inception”

Another misstep for “Bookface
Unveiling invasive Facebook Places
If privacy they don’t make clear
Then Facebook, I do fear
Is gonna go the way of MySpace

Three vets rolled down to Mississippi
With Butt Favre they did get lippy
“Look, bitch” they did say
“The drama ends today”
Flew him back where the winters are nippy

Campbell learned he would be a Dad
Don needs a new secretary -- bad
Peggy was always a bit of a ho
Switch-hitter? Which way does she go?

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXXXXXXIX: Politicians Actually Get Something Right, Plus Prick Pitino And Butt Favre Deserve Each Other

The overturning of Prop 8
No longer a source for debate
Or a reason for shame
At long last, we can claim
A victory of love over hate

The summer of Fat Albert in D.C.
Unconditioned, there’s nothing to see
Shanny “The Rat” ain’t takin’ no shite
Harassing Haynesworth is his right
It’s what passes for news on July TV

Pitino just another stupid jock
Couldn’t control his senses or c#&k
An affair on a restaurant table
Can’t make this shit up for cable
Guess Tricky Rick’s got a 15-second shot clock

Butt Favre in the news everyday
Like some sort of Douche Groundhog’s Day
An attention ho of the highest order
A fraud on the Mississippi border
Who gives a shit, play or don’t play

Lonely Christmas time for Draper
Rejections make him a secretary raper
Peggy pretended to be a virgin
Lucky Strikes, Sterling battle convergin’
Creepy Glenn breaks in and scatters paper

Deep Thoughts By No-Look McFadden: Episode 24

#1
So Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy is (rightly) removed from USC’s facilities, but O.J.’s stays?. Got it, thanks.

#2
For a few years now, “Big Brother” has equaled summer to me (sad as that is). Unfortunately, this may be the most boring season, with the fewest personalities, ever.

#3
So Dez Bryant threatens to hold out, gets a great deal from the Cowboys, then refuses to carry shoulder pads or take part in rookie hazing, then gets injured and could miss a month or more. Guess karma really is a bitch.

#4
I’ve always felt that Oliver Stone is perhaps the most overrated director ever. Now, with his Hitler affinity, he’s confirmed himself as a douche as well.

#5
Is it bad that 96% of the money used to rebuild Iraq is unaccounted for at this point? Just checking.

#6
Oh, how I’ve missed you, Joan Holloway. Dear lord, how I’ve missed you.

#7
If the “Last Exorcist” is rated PG-13, I’d hate to see what a goddam R is these days.

#8
Stuart Appleby shoots a freaking Sunday 59 to win the Greenbrier Classic by one stroke. That is just insane.

#9
Christiane Amanpour might be a helluva journalist, but dear lord, she has the worst hair of any TV media person I’ve ever seen. She looks like a she-Dwight.

#10
Anyone who thinks Butt Favre is just going to retire and slip away this quietly hasn’t seen many Wranglers or Sears commercials.

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXXXXXXIV: Say It Ain’t So, Michael Scott, Plus Butt Favre Is Jealous Of NBA FA

Couldn’t stop it, try as I might
Knew it was a battle I couldn’t fight
Feared the day Carell left the show
Now where does “The Office” go?
Maybe Dunder-Mifflin to be run by Dwight

Could this be the end of Roger?
They’re labeling him an old codger
But his demise has been predicted for years
Yet he still wins titles in tears
Don’t rule out a comeback for this artful dodger

Turns out Canadians are the same
Their cops beat the peaceful like a game
They’re as corrupt as the U.S. oil biz
He who protests will get his
The G20 interrupted—who’s to blame?

NBA free agency makes us all dumber
The league itself is a bit of a bummer
The top players had a summit
As NBA ratings did plummet
Favre: “You’re supposed to pay attention to me this summer!”

Jeezus struck by lightning, oh-my-oh!
Good heavens, don’t I know!
A six-story statue in rubble
Guess it needed a protective bubble
Why is irony always found in Ohio?

Deep Thoughts By No-Look McFadden: Episode 9

#1
“24” is back with a bang (great tagline, Fox), and this season features a CTU analyst named Arlo who looks exactly like J.J. Redick, as well as an Islamic leader with a pompadour that makes him look like a Mexican Elvis. Good times are certain to follow.

#2
Has anyone ever seen Larry Bird and Michael Rappaport in the same place at the same time?

#3
Thank christ I finally found a way to “unfriend” and block folks on Facebook. Let’s just say it has become much easier to cut down on requests to join Farmville and being forced to read ignorant, transparently racist views about how health care is the work of the devil.

#4“The Office” came back with a vengeance with what was essentially a “greatest moments” show. Normally I would take a show to task for being lazy for opening up a new season by stringing together highlights … but I was laughing way too hard to be upset.

#5
If you have a problem with pulling for New Orleans, you have a problem with yourself. The Saints and their relationship with their city and their people are a great story that they’re going to make a Disney movie out of some day. Laissez les bon temps rouler.

#6
Is there any question that Stephen Colbert represents the greatest combination of humor, sophistication and political commentary that we have today? I think the dude is nothing short of brilliant. He’s Bill Maher with charisma.

#7
“Fringe” is my favorite drama on TV, but they screwed the pooch in a big way when they trotted out their first new episode of the season—and it featured a character that was killed off last season. Running shows out of order happens in the TV biz, and I get that, but c’mon “Fringe” … you’re better than that.

#8
Dear Jets, Congratulations on your good fortune in getting opponents to roll over and miss field goals. I offer begrudging praise for your play in recent weeks. I’m sure it has been a memorable ride for you and your fans. Every playoffs in any sport should have a Cinderella story.
Now shut the fuck up.

#9
Dear Butt Favre,
Please stay retired this time.
Also, shut the fuck up.

#10
I’m hoping Eko and Charlie show up in some form during the last season of “Lost.” Not that I’m looking forward to it or have been anticipating it for seven months or anything.

Deep Thoughts By No-Look McFadden: Episode 6

#1
Big shout out to Dick Enberg, who is retiring from announcing NFL games after this season. Hearing his “Oh my!” after another Dan Marino aerial was truly the soundtrack of my childhood. He was always underrated, he’ll always be the voice of the AFC to me, and he will be truly missed.

#2
When you go to the Home Depot, why is it that, everywhere you turn, middle-aged folks are lurking nearby to help you—but when you go to pay and leave, there are no cashiers to be found?

#3
Kudos to Jerome Harrison of the Browns. I find people from Ohio more annoying than perhaps any other people I’ve ever come across, but this guy got a raw deal simply because he plays for the Browns. I don’t care if you play for or against the West Butner School of the Blind, if you run for 286 yards in an NFL game, you deserve some goddam publicity. This cat ran for almost 300 yards on the pro level and the dingleberry on Peyton Manning’s left cheek got more airtime.

#4
There are plenty of criticisms about Sidney Lowe that are warranted and even more that are baseless and misguided. But I will say that one of the areas where I have been most disappointed in him is in his inability to work the officials. I figured that, coming from the NBA, this would be a stronger point for him. Guys like Georgia Tech’s Paul Hewitt and Virginia Tech’s Seth Greenberg came into the ACC demanding respect and challenging the establishment that wants to keep UNC and Duke at the top. You can argue that they’ve gone overboard, but demanding respect and begging for it (see Sendek, Herb, and Lowe, Sidney) are two very different things.
If there was ever a game when Lowe should have gotten a technical, it was at Wake Forest. The Pack dramatically cuts the lead to four points and mysteriously gets called for about four fouls in the span of 30 seconds. Cut to Lowe on the sideline, shaking his head and bitching to his assistants. By not getting T’d up, he eventually set the stage for Tracy Smith not only fouling out, but then questioning the officiating after the game. So instead of taking ownership of the situation during the game, Lowe sells his player down the river, and THEN suspends him, too? C’mon Sid … Hell, Damon Thornton thinks that Tracy Smith is getting a raw deal from the officials! And you’ll notice that Wildcats coach Sean Miller called out Karl Hess by name prior to the State-Arizona game (by the way, as far as I know, Miller was never punished in any way for this; I’m pretty sure they would have shut down NC State’s entire program if Lowe would have done this), virtually ensuring that ‘Zona got every call down the stretch of that one as well. Stand up for your school, your players and yourself, Lowe! (*steps off soapbox*)

#5
So, Cowboys Stadium is really big, and it’s pretty, and it cost a lot of money. I get it. Can we move on now? At the end of the day, it’s still a fucking stadium. Don’t act like it’s some feat or accomplishment by Jerry Jones simply because he was able to pay a shit-ton of Mexicans a lot of money to build the damn thing. I don’t care if the toilets massage your arse while you drop a deuce, I don’t care if the stadium hovers itself from state to state for away games, I don’t care if the pizza tastes like macaroni and cheese dipped in the nectar of the gods. Just play football for crissakes.

#6
Why do I feel like every player on the Jacksonville Jaguars has dreadlocks?

#7
It’s been going on for years and years and it sure as hell isn’t going anywhere, but the whole extra point-TV timeout-kickoff-TV timeout has always been my pet peeve. Is it really necessary to give me 14 seconds of game action between six minutes of commercials?

#8
I know Jim Zorn is a dead man walking and the Redskins have been something less than watchable for past two weeks, but tossing the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL out of practice when you’re a lame duck takes cajones. Zorn seems like a good dude placed in an unfair and almost impossible situation, and he has consistently taken the high road. I actually hope he gets another chance someday when he is more ready.

#9
I can’t remember a season when there were so many missed extra points and short field goals in the NFL. It is like an entire generation of kickers got some mysterious choking disease all at the same time. I think it’s a good thing, too; I miss the days when there was a degree of risk in any and all kicks.

#10
Let me get this straight: Coach A goes to Player B and informs him that he is benched. Player B yells at Coach A on national television. Coach A further explains decision to Player B on sidelines. Player B refuses Coach A and re-enters game. Player B then needlessly calls out Coach A publicly after the game.
If Player B were anyone in the NFL besides Butt Favre, there would be an enormous backlash of accusations about the player being selfish, a diva, a locker room cancer, a prima donna and a coach-killer. Because Player B is Favre, instead the story is about how much he “loves the game” and just wants to keep playing with a “child-like enthusiasm.” For those who have a hard time understanding why so many fans now hate Favre, this is reason #624.

and ...

#11
Under special circumstances, you get a bonus one today. Since Texas Tech fired coach Mike Leach (this qualifies as breaking news here at Scooter & Hum) today as part of a bonafide fiasco, I have to touch on this. I used to work with a lady from Lubbock who, before the Red Raiders became a true power, said that word around that city was that Mike Leach was either a) an alcoholic, b) crazy or c) both. The latest charge (and it’s the first allegation of player abuse in Leach’s decade at Texas Tech) centered around Leach confining a concussed player, Adam James, in a closet or shed, depending on who you listen to.
However, since it took ESPN about a full day to admit that the kid involved was the son of their analyst, Craig James, you have to wonder about what truly happened—especially since some of Adam James’s former teammates have come out and said that he was not a hard worker and had a bad attitude. So one could make a compelling argument that this is what happened: a well-placed ESPN announcer who took money while he was a college athlete and helped run one Texas program, SMU, into the ground, basically enlisted the media outlet he works for to help run a coach out of town because his son wasn't handed a starting job because of his name. It sounds like Texas Tech sped the due process partly because of ESPN’s involvement and partly because they’re still upset that Leach interviewed with other schools last year without their permission, in which case I don’t blame Leach for filing a restraining order in return. It sounds eminently possible that Leach is gone because he burned bridges with Texas Tech last year, he was owed $800K on New Year's Eve if he was still coach and ESPN got involved. Either way, this one stinks, and stinks really bad.

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXVII: A Real “Michigan Man,” Plus Favre Just … I Mean ... I Give Up

Michigan’s been cheating without reprise
Does anyone think it’s a surprise?
Knew it wouldn’t end well with this hillbilly
You reap what you sow when you’re silly
The Wolverines fall while Dick Rod cries

Shocking—Butt Favre with a dirty play?
But he really loves the game, so it’s OK
“He’s like a little kid out there”
He wears Peter King’s underwear
The suspension should come down any day

Wilson looked like he was underwater
Our receivers had hands of butter
The refs were from Foot Locker
And Spurrier’s off his rocker
But it was a Wolfpack choke—yes, another

This week got the best of me
Lost some Scooter creativity
So I’m going to leave you with four
And come back next week with a roar
You’re lucky you didn’t just get three

Mad Men” comes back with some power

Wife pregnant, he still can’t control his wang
I could just watch Christina Hendricks for the whole hour

Dear god, please me it stop,” we did pray
Just make freaking Butt Favre go away
He cries each and every time he retires
Wears Wranglers and hopes someone rehires
He’s the herpes of the NFL, I heard someone say

UNC-Miami is in rare form

Gay-on-guy crime shows Butch you’ve got fire
It’s one way to avoid the waiver wire

Les Paul is off to that music festival in the sky
He revolutionized guitars with a block of wood
And then picked it like very few could
His passing brought a tear to many’s eye

It had the sound of a made-up fable
A huge fight around the meeting table?
The Raiders had to call the law
An assistant has a fractured jaw
Why didn’t you punch Al Davis, Coach Cable?

His hybrid on 18 made many say, “Dang!”
He broke the hearts of all the CBS gang
They gave Tiger the tourney on Friday
Then an Asian said, “We’re doing things my way”
Kudos to a rare humble champ—Y.E. Yang!

Limerick Friday LXXXXXXXXXIII: Pieces Of Shit Threaten To Return To NFL, Plus Kate Hudson And Comets

Once again, he’s become attention-starved
Another media niche has he carved
But of course, niche rhymes with bitch
He threw another team in the ditch
Now another word for a fucking joke is a Favre

On the front steps, there were all kinds of shats
Looked like post-Mexican dinner for rats
So armed with a water hose, uncurled
And the shriek of a 6-year-old girl
I chased out a whole family of goddam bats

The underrated Viper knew how to defend
But a carjacking by thugs spelled his end
Vernon Forrest boxed and punched with precision
Though slowed by injury and split decisions
Now boxing has lost a role model and friend

She was the sweetheart of film for a while
Cute as a button with a memorable smile
Then Kate Hudson started getting passed around
From singers to actors to athletes she would bound
Now it’s A-Rod’s turn on the Kate Hudson drunk dial

Jupiter got crushed by a comet
Now fear’s causing some Earthlings to vomit
“What if one hits us?” they ask in a hurry
To them all I can say is, “Don’t worry”
Like “Armageddon” showed, we can just bomb it

The return of that piece of shit Vick
No NFL team will touch him with a stick
He lied to the Feds and he skated
Returns to the sport where he was overrated
Hope he snaps his femur in camp, that would be a kick

You think you can get the charges dismissed?
It was just a slapfight at a gay bar during 'YMCA'"

Could it really be the end of one Brett Favre
Off to the booth with Madden to turkey carve?
He came back to throw ducks in the city of crime
And lead the league in picks one final time
Now he'll leave poor Peter King love-starved

"Lost" killed off yet another babydoll
Locke snapped a femur at the end of a fall
Pregnant Rousseau is left to fend for herself
Hoping for a return of Charlie the elf
To return or not is a tough "Oceanic 6" call

The economy continues in a scary freefall
Can the stimulus package make that fall stall?
No one knows for sure, is the unfortunate fact
Best to keep your cube's personal effects packed
Nonetheless, a Happy Valentine's Day to one and all

From Rotten Fish To Tuna Caviar: The Story Of The 2007-2008 Miami Dolphins

In one memorable afternoon, the Dolphins not only completed the most improbable one-season turnaround in arguably the history of sports with a 24-17 victory over the Jets in the Meadowlands. They not only went from one win to 11, from league laughingstock to division champions. They not only tied an NFL record for fewest turnovers in a season with just 13. They not only boast the shoo-in NFL Coach of the Year in Tony Sparano.

On top of all of those things, they pulled off the sweetest of hat tricks:

1. They knocked the hated Jets out of the playoffs on their home field.
2. They eliminated the cheatin' Patsies from the postseason.
3. They embarrassed and ended the career of one Butt Fraud, who likely spent most of last night being comforted as the pastrami in a Jim Nance-Phil Simms sandwich.

It's been seven years since the 'Fins had a meaningful game to play, and in this de-facto playoff contest, Miami wasn't going to be denied. From undrafted free agents like wideout Devone Bess and kicker Dan Carpenter to up-until-now disappointing draftees like Philip Merling to sage trade pickups like Anthony Fasano and Akin Ayodele (both for a fourth-rounder? Are you f'ing kidding me?), they all had a part in this. They all bought into what Sparano told them all year long, and reiterated in the bowels of the Meadowlands: "Don't let anyone ever say you can't do something."

Indeed.

Why not us? Why not now?

I believe. Now let's get back to business.

Bring on the Ravens. We're already underdogs again. Just where we want to be.

The Favre-sbury Flop Coming To The NFL?

It's bad enough that most of the media covering the NFL is comprised of guys who once coached Butt Favre, guys who played with or against Favre, guys who want to spend a week in a hot tub with him, or guys who gush over getting his cell phone number like they just pried the digits out of Charlize Theron. It's bad enough that he repeatedly held hostage the franchise that treated him like royalty for 15 years, cried like a bitch at a press conference, then came back like the drunk uncle who was politely asked to leave the kids' Easter Egg hunt and wants another shot. It's bad enough that he's the Teflon man with a Vicadin addiction and an affinity for creepy jeans commercials.

And it's bad enough that he got another undeserved trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, despite leading the league in interceptions. He easily trailed more worthy candidates like Philip Rivers (3,515 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions), Matt Cassel (3,270 yards, 18 scores, 11 picks) and Chad Pennington (3,218 yards, 14 touchdowns, six interceptions), when compared to 3,052 yards, 21 scores and the aforementioned 17 picks for Favre. What a joke, considering Favre's performance has plummeted woefully as the season has gone on and opposing defenses have started loading the box to stop Thomas Jones.

Those things are bad.

But maybe the worst part of it all is that now, almost predictably, Favre is trying to bring the flop to the NFL. If you watch any of his games, he now plummets to the ground when anyone brushes near him as he's throwing, fish-flopping to the turf like he's trying to earn a scholarship offer from Coach K. The biggest problem facing the NFL right now is the mind-numbing overprotection of its quarterbacks, spearheaded by the fact that they are seen as the moneymakers who drive the league's popularity. Now, on top of that unfair protection, you have an over-the-hill fraud trying to draw charges and play off of the referees' quick whistles when it comes to defenders coming within a three-yard radius of a signal-caller.

As if undeserved recognition, media coddling and overhyping aren't enough, now Favre thinks the honorable thing to do is to do his best Shane Battier impersonation and take advantage of the NFL's misplaced rules focus. It reminds me of the end of John Stockton's career, when his heady play for the Utah Jazz was eventually replaced with his embarrassing flopping, staggering around and crashing to the floor when anyone touched him, like a WWF wrestler hit with a fake metal chair. At the end, you felt sorry and ashamed for Stockton, instead of appreciating the greatness with which he played the point guard position for like 20 years in the NBA. If Favre wants to end his career with more rug burns than Paris Hilton and further tarnish his legacy among real fans by trying to singlehandedly bring the flop to the NFL, hopefully an objective journalist will finally call him out for it.

I won't hold my breath on anyone with any credibility pointing out his flopping, though. In fact, it's more likely to "earn" him an honorary degree from Duke instead.

Limerick Friday LXXXXVIII: Palin, Butt Favre Love Expensive Makeup

All it cost was a mere 150 grand
To make this Alaskan look pretty and tanned
Campaign finance is pretty big for their ticket
But will this help reduce the feared deficit?
For the GOP, only truth and common sense are banned

They said, "This will be the end of the line for old 'B-Hop'
"When he feels Kelly Pavlik's punches, he'll want to stop"
Instead the "Executioner" went into the ring
Took all the pop out of the "Ghost's" sting
Now, is there anyone left that Hopkins can't stop?

Recession fears strike our country far and widenin'
From ethics concerns Sarah Palin can't be hidin'
Obama is looking after his sick grandma "Toot"
As McCain hopes his lies can somehow take root
While Meredith College welcomed VP Joe Biden

State game only available on freaking computers
Sending Pack fans scurrying off to Hooters
No ESPN360 thanks to Time Warner Cable
Where customer service is but a fable
No fun watching football on a laptop that's Scooter's

Called up Detroit to ask, "Need some help beating Green Bay?"
Spent 90 minutes diagramming plays in his Wranglers that were gray
Went hunting with his buddy, the hated Matt Millen
Popped some Vicodin, shot some turkeys while chillin'
He's good on Sundays, but a fraud and an asshole every other day
